John, I'm working on one right now. $180.00 worth of parts from the CIH/CNH or somebody dealer and three days in the doghouse took care of it.
Replace the upper & lower bushings in the bolster and new seals. Replace the bushing & seal, and the ball bearing where the steering shaft enters the steering gearbox. Clean & re-grease and adjust the front wheel bearings, and last but not least, rebuild the U-joint in the steering shaft. I also had to replace the shaft in the bolster because it was bent???? ken

Farmallkid You just as well check everything on the steering as long as you are looking. Most times it is a little here and a little there, to do a good job.

If you take the grill off, you will see a plate with 4 bolts, take the bolts out and under that plate is a worm gear. If it is a full moon shape, then turn it a half turn, if it is a half moon shape, then you will have to find a good used gear. The teeth get really worn, and then the steering go"s sloppy. Hope this helps.
