Hello,
The H I am rebuilding... Has a magneto, if I do not pull it off, and assuming it ran when parked, then it is still in time?

Mags are aligned with the camshaft gear, that simple?

It is a HUGE high power magneto of some sort. What resources can I find on magnetos?

You can test it to see if it has spark by having the wife or girlfriend hold one end of the spark plug wire and spinning the tractor over with the battery. You will know very shortly!!!

If you're thinking about pulling that mag you need to bring No1 piston up to TDC on the compression stroke. Then look at your rotor to see where it is pointing. Should be at No1 plug tower. Once you remove the mag don't move the engine. This will make it easier to reinstall mag. Hal
PS: You can also tell if the engine is in time
by doing the above procedure by bringing No1 piston to TDC on the compression stroke and make sure rotor is at No1 plug tower.

thanks for the tip on checking to see if it is currently TDC on #1, and that the rotor is pointed accordingly.

How to test the mag for spark? simply turn engine over and hold plug wire near a ground?

You should clean and adjust those points to .013".
Pull the coil wire from the cap and hold within 1/8" of good ground and have someone crank the engine with the starter. Should have a nice blue hot spark. Make sure your grounding wire
switch on the mag isn't in the off postion. This is what's used to stop your engine. Hal
