I have a 1960 140 and the steering is becoming incredibly sloppy. Is there a way to tighten the steering without taking off the front axle. If not how do I tighten the steering. Thanks for any help you guys can give. Dave

Mornin Dave, You need to evaluate your particular steering box. Meaning, while you turn the steering shaft, is the steering shaft moving in and out, axial play in the shaft? If so this can be corrected by taking the large castle nut out of the front of the box and put in a shim between the outer bearing race and the lip of the castle nut. Also quite often, the steering arm that is on the bottom of the steering box can become loose and can wear the woodruff key on that shaft. You need to determine if those arms have become loose. Also, check that your control arms are tight to your wheel spindles. This should give you a starting point.
