Hi All,

I have a old TD-6 I'm trying to ID in case I need to do a head pull or piston job since "unsticking" it. My understanding is this motor was originally a 264 with 3.875 bore but may have/can be sleeved as a 281 with 4in bore. Anyway to tell without actually tearing it apart first ?

You can go by engine serial # to find out what it was originaly. The # is on left front side of block above injection pump and just below head and may have engine size stamped there before serial #. If no serial # it may be replacement block.Think they used 248,264 and,281 but I don't have the serial # breakdown to when they changed. Some may have been called 6 A .Trouble is if it was rebuilt and it was 248, 3 7/8 inch bore it could be replaced with 4 inch and if it was 264, 4 inch it could be replaced with 4 1/8 which is 281.The only sure way to know is take it apart.

Your engine is probably the 248cid engine, the 264
was used in the Super MD. Should be able to install an oversize sleeve kit to raise the cid to 264. Hal

Guy,
The TD-6 had the same engine as the MD. If you find it difficult getting shop service manual for the TD-6, Find one for the MD and all engine procedures and parts are the same. I have one that covers the 6, 6A, 264, 281, 9, 9a, and 350 series. If you E.mail me, I will give you the name, address, and phone number of the guy I bought my manual from.

Thanks, I messed up the original CID. It is or was of course a 248.. I do have that same manual (ISS-1035b)for the 6,6A, 264, 281 etc series. Good book. I was just hoping to determine if it was already sleeved to the 264 but I guess I would actually have to measure the bore to know for sure ?
