I'm looking to get a 3 bottom plow for my M. I've been using a JD 3 bottom but the color is just bothering me. The M is a 48 and in very good condition and I'd like a matching plow. I'm not up on the international plows and model numbers. I want a pull type and have hydraulics for the cylinder. What model plows would be appropriate time period behind the M. Thanks in advance.

A model 16 would be a good companion for your tractor. I've never pulled a JD plow but their reputation is that although they plow well, they pull harder than most so you may even experience easier plowing with the IH. That would be a nice bonus too. good luck finding one.

Say what you will about the JD plow, but it will pull a lot easier than an IH plow. I guess you aren't really going to be plowing much with it though. It is a to look at thing , I guess.

A #8 genius plow would make a nice companion to your M, they are easy to find, and would be of the correct vintage. If you could find a #16 it would be a good plow as well, but a little newer than your M. My 2 cents, Mark

Mark, Please excuse my ignorance, but does an genius plow have rubber tires or steel wheels. Everyone I've seen was on steel, which made me think they were of much older vintage.

If i'm not mistaken the genious plow was made until the late 50's or early 60's.something makes 1963 stick in my head. The 16's were made from 1953-1964 I think and was replaced by the #70. A #60 would also be a nice plow for ya, just newer. Good luck in your search, the chase is the funnest part of the game!!! Mark p.s. except maybe for the plowin' LOL ;>)

Up through WWII, tractors still commonly came on steel wheels, as did implements.

Most "Little Genius" plows came with mechanical trip lifts, though you could get a hydraulic conversion kit. Like every antique, though, you can't just go to the "parts store" and buy the conversion kit if you pick up a nice trip lift version, and finding just the kit will be practically impossible.

The little genius plows were available with either steel or rubber, and if you opted for rubber you once again had several options as to which size of tire you wanted. The little genius plow that I am using is on steel cut-offs, with rims and rubber tires.
