I have seen Decals on E-bay for a 1940 H. Are these Decals any good or should I buy them someplace else? Where is the best place to purchase a Decal set.
Thanks.

I got the vinyl cut decals for my '40H from Hunter and was very happy with them. I like the correct version without the IH logo better.

Didn't realize how small the pictures get the way I'm posting them.

I met the man that does Iron Horse decals and he seemed like a nice guy. But I've been buying mine from Maple Hunter for years and am always happy. I believe mr. Maple has passed on and John Hunter is running it.
Whatever you do there is always extra decals in the kit that that don't belong on the tractor. Look at pictures of original tractors. If in doubt LEAVE THEM OFF. That is one of my pet peeves. One decal in particular is the "oil level" which was made for the early Regular & 10-20 AIR CLEANER. It does not belong on the oil pan. If you get one in your set, give it to your kid. Kids love stickers.

The best decals, and the correct series of years are available from Maple Hunter decals 765-932-2027. You have your choice between vinyl cut and the original mylar. The vinyl cut are not the ones that came on the tractor, but are much easier to apply, and since there is no film between the letters they never become discolored.

If authenticity is what you are after, then I"d be very leery of buying decals from an E-Bay dealer. I"ve seen decals that were described one way, and just looking at the picture I could tell they werent for the year tractor they were posted for. By the time you pay shipping, I doubt you are going to be any better off price wise than if you went to your nearest Case IH dealer and ordered a set. They have the right sets available for the early models, which yours is, and are of good to great quality. The package containes all the decals you would need, and probably some you wont need if you, for example, dont have shutters. Guy Fay"s book, "Farmall Letter Series Tractors" is available at all major book stores and some TSC stores, and is very informative as to the correct placement of the decals. If you just want to slap on a set of decals and not be bothered by authenticity, then have at it with the E-Bay ones.

I think most of the decal sets being sold on eBay come from either Tisco or A&I. Those sets are O.K., but not great. They are very close to what would have been original on the tractor, but the real problem is that the "correct" decals for your 1940 H are not offered. The "correct" hood decal for the earlier letter series does not have the IH on it.

Rusty, I think you can get the correct ones from Case IH, or Case NH dealers. I got a set of early decals for my A, with the McCormick Deering over Farmall and no IH. According to what I saw, they were available for the early H and M as well. I don"t know if they are available in this site"s marketplace, but if not, O*H*M* lists them as PN# R1323 for 1939/1944.

Yes, I know that the correct decals are available, and are not too hard to find, but you probably won"t find them on eBay.

Call Joe's Farmall. He is in Western, Pa. at 814-226-6214. They are reasonable and good. He takes a credit card and you will have the decals within 2 days. He also has a ton of other lettered Farmall parts.
