I purchased some paint from Tractor supply for a mower deck I also bought the hardener from Valspar that they sell. The hardner instructions say to mix with paint 30 min before using. I want to spray it reducing it with naptha. There are no instructions on the label in regards to spraying. Can anyone offer advice on this?

I would reduce paint with up to 10% enamel reducer. Naptha may be fine, never tried it. I would use the hardener too. If you want it shinny for years I scuff it the next day with a 3M scotch brite pad and clear it with urethane. If you are not into shinny forget the urethane. Urethane adds to costs fast.

Why clear cheap paint with urethane clear?? Just use single stage acrylic urethane to begin with, will probably cost less than the TSC stuff combined with the more expensive urethane. Unless you use base coat/clear coat, you will never see the difference between uncleared single stage and the cleared cheap paint, in fact the single stage will probably look better.

Last sentence makes no sense. Should read the only thing better than uncleared acrylic urethane is base coat/clear coat.

Use quality paint, you won't regret it, hardener or not. Besides you need supplied air for hardener. TSC is alkyd enamel. It will be 3 shades lighter in a year.

I just used it awhile ago and you can do it without hardener. Spray at 45psi. I use a Sharpe spray gun It came out real nice for a cheap paint.Follow instructions you don't need much naptha to reduce.Go to tractor photos at left and look for 1956 300U with my name.

My advice would be to take the hardner back to the store but nobody ever listens to me.
