Can't crank my 350D without using either, for some reason it has started doing this. After it starts it runs great.

Any ideas?

i agree with jed i have a 350 diesel it does start hard if battery is not fully charged or wires or conection is bad they will not crank over fast enough i found that if i parked on a slite grade and roll started it it would fire right up with ease i had starter rebuilt and new wires and cranked up my regulator so it would charge it right up good it will start much easier

CP, make sure the injector pump is not loosing it's prime by seeping of leaking fuel after you shut it down.
Also, it may be the fuel shutoff sticking a little in the head or the pump. The linkage on the outside looks good...but it sticks inside the pump.
I had the same problem with dad's old 350D. Hot it would most times start right up...but one time it did not and it gave me fits. I got a can of fuel and using an electric pump and rubber line forced fuel into it. It fired right up. Darn pump was seeping past the o-rings inside.
I had it rebuilt and it fires fine now...but sometimes the linkage inside still sticks. If I tap it with a wooden handle screwdriver...I can hear it move inside. It fire right up then.
My 2 cents.....

I am not familiar with the 350D. Is that a Continental Diesel? A lot of the time the batteries are not spinning fast enough to create the compression needed to start the engine.
