Tor,

You've got that straight. I absolutely HATED that thing; worst darned diesel I ever ran across when I first got it. Hard startin', wet-stackin', loud, poor-excuse for an engine.

Well, until the first day I put it in the field, that is..... ...

I'm a total convert now. Horsepower for horsepower, there's not an American diesel that can compare to the torque or long-life dependability of those Germans.

And they just simply sip fuel like an English lady at tea time. :>)

Yep. Over the years I had over 12 of those German diesels, counting tractors, swather, combines..... Swear by them. 282s were really good until you got a 310. But man they slobber like a rabid dog when they are loafing. They like nothing better than being loaded and turning 2300!!!!! !!!!! ..... ..QR..

Red,

I'm really "toying" with the notion of turning this one up just a touch to really make a bulldog out of it.

All you can do is "up" the rpms on these engines, right? I mean, you can't actually go in there and tweek a smoke screw can you?

allen you can turn up the smoke screw from the outside of the pump.with the fuel shut off lever in the run position it will be against a ajustment screw just back that screw out until you are happy.after you back the ajustment out you will have to ajust the low idle.
