Have been doing a lot of "reading" the tractor information over the last few days. Last thurday evening had , what the Doctor's tell me was a heart attack. Arrived at the hospital last thursday evening and was released on monday after competing a 9 minute stress test and have to return for a 30 minute test after 6 to 8 weeks of rest. First time ever to be a patient in the hospital. They treat you very nicely. i previously had been taking a small 1/2 pill for high blood pressure. They now have me taking about 6 pills per day to thin my blood and lower the cholestrol to 1.9. This adventure was totally my fault, enjoyed eating anything sweet and my wife of 49 years and 6 months loves to cook and make those nice pastries. So we are having a change in our diets. My advice to anyone is get your blood checked. This thought has gone through my mind several times over the years, and yes I put it off until another time. It could have ben a lot more serious. they sent me home without any great restrictions other then I cannot drive for 4 to 6 weeks. So prephaps I will get some extra work done on the two projects in the garage both farmalls. All family members have told me to slow down, I have always had the thought especially since retirement, because I had good health and was energized was to help others for free, installing windows, doors, building decks, painting and the list goes on, then my tractor projects would usually come last, now I have time to plan while I am suppose to be resting. cheers, Murray

Glad yer here yet, I had an employee die from a heartattack at 35 years old. Neighbor died of massive heart attack at 59. Doctor called his brother as soon as she heard and told him to get in there so she could check him out too. He was immediatly scheduled for a quad bypass? He never has physicals either before that. Best of health and rexcovery to you. I need to give up the ribs and bacon myself but..... . I just cant! I gots good insurance at least. Dont tell the wife I said that,.

Murray: Oh the pleasures of eating, it's just about 13 months since I got my come up-ins. Like Carol my wife also likes to cook. Those Nova Scotia born and raised women, they are almost offended if folks don't eat up. I've dropped 50 lbs in the past year, it's just a matter of saying no to the foods you like best. Doc. told a friend of mine, "You can live the first 50 years of your life just about any reckless way you wish, within reason, but the second 50 years you must live and eat for your health."

You've been much too quiet lately, we haven't heard from you in awhile? A good dose of the guys here at YT will do wonders for your health. Seriously, it's great to hear your doing quite well.

Tell Carol to cook you up a good feed of salt herring and Nova Scotia blue potatoes. If you keep your mouth full of potatoes during the meal, then you don't have to pick all those little bones out of the herring. My grandfather always claimed salt herring, blue potatoes and a little Seven Seas black rum would keep any Nova Scotians heart healthy. He did live into his 80s. I think it's matter of putting the salt herring in your mouth bones and all, it's bound to slow consumption of food. I suppose they don't even make Seven Seas any more 25 years after the buy out of the distillery by multi-nationals.

Hugh, the problem I have at the present time is convincing people that I did have a heart attack. I sort of get a chuckle when people really question me on this problem, enjoyed good health and always on the go. Lloyd phoned on monday before supper and was going to ask Carole how i was making out in the hosptal, when I answered the phoned,Lloy's response was, "whose this" and then but, but, but, your in the hospital. Lloyd phoned again today and told me the same story three times. I was just using the speaker phone and Lloyd's voice could be heard throughout the house, Carole was getting quite a chuckle out of Lloyd's excitement. cheers, Murray. P.S I cannot stop munching on other types of health food, how long does it take to get over this crave for food.

Murray: My problem of course was blood sugar, no problems with colestrol or blood presure. I checked out fine on ECG.

However the eating and controling it are not a lot different. I was never a big fan of cakes, cookies, pie, candy, etc. I dispise salt, sugar and grease, as in fast foods. My three eating and drinking sins were Coke, bread and potatoes. I eliminated the Coke and reduced the bread and potatoes substancially. I reduced this too far in the beginning and had to up it a bit. I was a bit concerned about 6 months into it as I was loosing weight too easily. At that point I set out to see if I could stop weight loss. I did and now I'm back at loosing again only at a reduced rate.

I could just hear Lloyd echoing through the house. He would be rather abrupt, your either ailing or your well, no half way measure with Lloyd. Why in H@## doesn't he get a computer, he'd be good on YT discussion. Tell him I don't want to hear his pain about being too poor. I do remember what he got for the last 10 acres of the farm.

How is Melvin Harris?

Hugh, Melvin just phoned me on thursday evening. He is doing okay now and said he just come in from the hot house setting out some seeds. Melvin did have a kidney removed, (cancer) about 10 months ago and did not get any gardening completed last year and the Doctor told him if he was going to have cancer that was the best type to have. Melvin did state that Sobey's will only purchase rhubarb from him , they will not purchase vegetables. So I don't know where he will sell any produce. Melvin is 77 years old , Never changes. cheers, Murray

Hi Mike, As I think back about the "sweets" that Carole bakes especially those squares it's a wonder I did not have problems a long tome ago. Carole is actually upstairs decorating a birthday cake for a friend, to deliver tomorrow as a surprise. Cheers ,Murray

You Bet!

My best friend dropped like a rock at the age of 53. Heart exploded and he was dead when he hit the floor.

So, one night I was feeling a little dizzy and went to the clinic. Been on those darned expensive pills ever since.

Doctor watches me like a hawk, but says although he can keep the heart going, he still can't do anything about my "lightweight" brain. :>(

Yup! The way to a man's heart is through his stomach. Glad you caught it in time. I try to eat healthy but still drink too much coffee.

I can still recall the whoopin I got when my Mom caught me in exactly that same posture. We were always trying to stick things in the sockets.

How much coffee is too much? I start drinking at 5:30 A.M. and stop at 5:30 P.M (10 cups/3 doses). Otherwise, I fall down asleep!
