Hi Guys,

Kinda pressed for time around here, so I swapped tractors on the packer to finish my field this morning.

Should have taken time to swap the duals too. I had to sink the teeth as deep as they would go to get it to cover, but anyway, we got the field sealed.

That's a luggin' ol' devil. :>)

That is a cultipacker isn't it? It looks like the field was way too rough for it. I used one after I disced and crossdisced twicw and you could have played shuffleboard on it after the cultipacker was rolled over it twicw also. Had a custom driller plant alfalfa and orchard grass mix. When he saw the field he said "this is going to be fun". But this was just a 10 acre experimental plot. He plants 8-10 hrs per day for about 20 days every spring Uses a new GreatPlains 16'drill that cost him about 60k. As a rule of thumb he said you should just be barely able to leave a good boot heel print if you stomp down moderately. We planted that last June. it rained 12 hours later. I clipped it once in late aug.You ought to see that alfalfa today!I'm guessing it will go 8 tons/acre.(3 cuts). We had April rains of 1, 3, .5, .5 spaced out nicely. My neighbor has a couple of thorobreds and he has claimed first dibs. 80T x $75, not a bad return on the $700 it cost to put in, and the $6/ton it will cost in fuel to put it up. And I think we can get about the same yield for at least three more years with minimum upkeep. Spraying and fertilizer. See the tractor is running and it sure looks like it's tuned to perfection.
