Just wanted to know if anyone had ANY idea or suggestions on a tractor to use for food plots? We are going to be doing 4 1-acre plots on a 40 acre field. It"s all grass now. What would you suggest for tractor size and implements that would be needed? I"d like to stick with farmall, hence the post in this area, as the neighbor to our land has farmall tractors and can take them apart and rebuild them blindfolded. (in house mechanic) Any ideas/suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated.

P.S. I was leaning toward an H? Would also like a bucket on it...for rock picking, snow etc....

Thanks in advanced!!!

i plant food plots every year for the deer and for momma to look at, i use an old pull type disc behind a 300 utility or my M or a 230 or a c or an h, whatever is appealing. my suggestion to you is to get a h with a loader would to me be foolish because, for one there is no curl to the bucket unless you get live hydrraulics on it whish is a royal pain. secondly we have a h with a factory loader and it is very much a nice tractor but my plow on my 4-wheeler moves more snow than it could on any day. being in a field and only doing that small of amount of ground it would make sense to me to sure if you want get a tractor but borrow equipment from your neighbor once or twice a year.thats my opinion, good luck

You didnt say what kinds of crops you intend to raise. Best results are to fall plow with moldboard plow as ground has to cure to work-up best. What you are going to plant is the biggest problem. What did you have in mind for planter? I would look for a engine-powered tiller to work the soil in the spring as you can go as slow as needed for soil prep. Where you live and knowlege of good workable stuff is top of the list. My self like what an A can do as i have the veggie cult also the regular one. You will need something to control bugs so a sprayer will also be on the list.Hard to raise sweet corn when bugs eat the silk.

I do food plots and I'm using an A with a drag disk. My problem is not having a 3-point hitch, I have to man handle the disk on & off the trailer every time I move from plot to plot. I'll get something with a 3-point one of these days. My drag disc is wider than the trailer. If I could find a 5 or 6' I could wheel it on.

Anyway - back to your question: Any of the letter series would be sufficient for ya, but I wouol hold out for a wide front. My Son has an H and it's a good tractor for farmin', but for anything but farm fields I prefer a wide front.
