I stopped at the local Case IH dealer the other day to check some prices on parts. One of the items I was looking at was a carb rebuild kit for an H, they quoted me $90! Is there anything special with their kits verses a kit from this site?

I just searched for that part number on cngco.com and it shows $89. Can you get me 2 of those kits Billy?

email me if it you can do that.

Maybe they gave me a rainy day price for an incorrect part I got the week before. I just checked that cost online and got the $89 also. Hmmm. Checked my invoice...they must have felt bad for me being ugly or something. :)

The Case-IH kit does include several items that you will not find in other kits. You will get all three gaskets, not just two. The new throttle shaft will have the bronze fitting for the governor shaft, not nylon like the others. The Case-IH kit includes a new fuel inlet fitting with screen, not present in the others, and the Case-IH kit also includes a new packing gland for the high speed load adjustment screw. The others don't even know the packing gland is in there. All of this plus the gaskets are much higher quality and WILL fit. I know $90 seems high, but if you buy one of the other kits, you will be visiting your Case-IH dealer to get the rest of the parts you need anyhow, and when you are done, you will have spent just about as much, if not more.

Rusty, last year I questioned on here if anyone was having any luck getting a aftermarket kit with high speed screw packing and you answered you were getting ones at NAPA with packing.I purchased one there and sure enough no packing.Question is are you getting ones with packing from them now? I never tried them agian.

I haven't bought any from NAPA recently, but those kits used to have the packing in them. I quit buying from NAPA because most of the carbs I rebuild need new throttle shafts and the NAPA kits do not have them. I now get most of my kits from A&I, and get the parts that are not included in their kits from Case-IH.

Woah! I just bought a rebuild kit for an H (D10) from the CNH guys and it wasn't $90! Plus it was the complete rebuild kit with everything possible under the sun (CNH P/N 354452R92)...and I paid $52 for mine. I just went back and checked my receipt.

I use Carter & Gruenwald since they are just a spin down the road. I worked for a large dairy operation to get me through school and C&G use to be their parts support, and they always impressed me with their service. Been using them ever since. They have been a bit high on some things...cheaper on others, but it all washes out in the end. It's the service I get that's got me.

You are absolutely right that the CNH kit is the only way to go. It has all the things that you had mentioned (and it's the felt packing, filter screen, and seat that cure most D10 headaches).

I've rebuilt carbs with aftermarket kits, but some things are just better OEM...and this is definitely one of them.

I have been rebuilding quite a few H and M carbs recently. I use the aftermarket kits simply because I can then sell the rebuilt carb at a lower price, but I do spend more time with the lesser kits trying to get everything to fit properly, and sometimes I end up just tossing some of those pieces because they simply cannot be made to work. I then have to dig through my used parts inventory and find a part that will clean up and be as good as a new one. If I could find a Case-IH dealer that would sell me the good kit at a discount I would buy all of my kits from him.

It might be worth your while to call them and see if a discount could be worked out for multiple kit purchases. They might be willing to do something for you if you have been turning quite a few carbs around lately. Sure wouldn't hurt to ask. I noticed that when I set my account up with them that my pricing structure got better.

Rusty - I seem to remember a "rebuild" kit you posted a picture of on here earleir this year some time. Seems like it was just a bolt or something and we all had a good laugh at your comments. I guess your "rebuilding" expertise has expanded somewhat since then...

That picture was of a carburetor that was yet to be rebuilt. Sort of an "as found" thing. I get a kick out of seeing some of the home remedies, quite often it would have been just as easy to fix it right the first time. I have also found a few home remedies that apparently did make the carb functional again but at the same time caused enough damage to render the carb useless except as a parts donor.
