Looking at a nice 706 with wide front and 3 point. Man says injector pump was rebuilt on the 310 german diesel recently and the injectors cleaned. He says he always uses a liitle shot of ether to crank it. Is this normal?

Ether to a tractor is like Crack to a person.

JM,

They are a slobberin', smokin', hard-starting when cold, low-compression, expensive-to-repair engine. They are a knockin', rattlin', hurt-your-ears loud motor and you'll cuss the day you first saw it.

Until the day you hook it up and put it to work. Then, you'll be so darned impressed with the thing that you won't believe it!

Hardest pullin' diesel I've ever owned and I'm totally sold on the things. However to be sure, they do demand a steady diet of hard work to keep 'em happy.

Allan

Great shot Allan...but what you been beating that muffler with? You sure have some nice toys.
While your out working, can you push some rain clouds our way? We are about to dry up and blow away down here. Haven't seen rain in months.

Hi Bill,

We are needing the rain too for this time of year. This last go-around left us with nothing but the darned wind. :>(

The "dings" on the muffler are from hail; I really ought to replace that thing.

If it needs ether or any other form of help starting when it's above 40 degrees, it's getting tired. Those old 310's always were a bit hard starting, but if you had a tank heater installed and planned ahead and plugged it in a few hours before you needed the tractor they would start no problem. Ether does nothing but cause problems.

JMM, Allan is right. When loafing around the yard the will slober some. Noisy?? I disagree there. Either start?? I always had mine close enuf to the shop to be able to plug in the tank heater. Used either start sparingly. Pull, you bet. Could make 5mph with a 14ft.Swather in heavy alfalfa with the crimper on. And 4.5mph
with 4 16"s. Good tractor.
