From reading the posts on the board it appears that oil getting past the worn o-ring on the C's pump drive is common. I've been "making" engine oil for the past few times I used the C to mow with so I figured it was time to get a pump kit and do the job. I figured as soon as I repaired the Touch Control unit so it didn't leak this would be the next item.

Had the local Case IH dealer order the seal kit they took the number off of the old pump and it looks like the right o-Rings etc are there. But there are also some parts that are not in the original pump. I know it is not unusual to have parts for sevral applications in one kit but I wasn't sure. I have the Blue ribbon touch control service manual but the pump diagram is limited. Any advice from those who have already went down this road? Is it difficult to get the pump shaft through the new o-ring without damage?

My kit had extra parts too. Use the ones that fit your pump. Don't worry about the extras.

It seems not long ago we had a similar thread. The participants were confused and perplexed trying to explain the procedure to someone who had the pump disassembled and couldn't figure it out (It's really a simple little gizmo). He finally realized that the pump gear could be pushed out from the forward section of the housing (pushing the gear shaft rearward), thus exposing the shaft oil seal seated in the housing under the gear. The o-rings keep the pump from leaking externally--the shaft seal is what keeps the fluid from draining into the oil pan. Hope this helps.

I can't help with the extra parts, but I've seen extra parts in other kits. There are several variations of this pump. Mine wasn't even in the book.

The shaft on mine was pretty snug when I slid it through. I lubed it up good to make sure it would slip by. I made sure the seal was seated well by slipping a round shank screwdriver through the hole and sliding it around the hole.

Luck.

It's been about 3 years since I did mine, so I don't remember what is in the kit. The pump is very easy to diassemble, there really isn't much to that style of pump -- so replace the parts in the pump with the new ones in the kit, ignore the others. Dip the seals in hydraulic fluid before installing. The seal on the shaft just rolls on.
