What is the easiest to use and best IH paint out there? Is there one that is two part or one that is realitivly easy to use and what is the price that I would expect to pay? Also other than ebay where can I find side emblems for a 300 utility? I also saw a used power steering unit that will fit my 300, I dont have PS. Is it worth the hassle and the money, how hard to install. We are going to keep this tractor till next spring then sell to move up the food chain. Also the steering has been difficult and we checked the plug on the gear box and it was very low, we now know why, seems to be leaking. Is there a typical place that these leak and what kind of reapirs will that need? Thanks for all the help, Terry

If you are painting it to sell, don't. Unless you want to do at least a semi-professional paint job. I have bought painted and unpainted tractors. If there were two side by side I would take the unpainted one. Paint hides a lot of defects, and the ones painting to sell don't have the incentive to do a half decent job. However, if you insist on painting it, for your purposes buy IH 2150 from your Case-IH dealer. Do not use hardener unless you want to spend $4-$500 for a supplied air system to protect you from the isocyanates in the hardener. I think the cost is about $40-$45 a gallon, add some for primer. I use 2-part "economy" acrylic urethane for about $135/gallon, or close to $250-$300 for the tractor if you add the cost of the primers and surfacers. Prices go up from there. Your tractor will take between 4 and 6 quarts, depending on how much disassembly you do.

To add power steering, you need the p/s unit and the "priority valve", which I think IH called a flow control valve, which makes sure you have steering even when raising or lowering implements. Your manual steering gearbox is probably leaking where the "freeze plug" presses in to the housing at the end of the steering shaft. It's a $2 item, but to replace it you have to remove the steering gearbox, which involves removing the steering wheel, dash, and gas tank, not difficult, but more work that it seems like it should be. If the tractor doesn't have a front end loader, I don't think I'd bother with p/s if I was selling next spring, except that it will be loads easier to sell with p/s. I haven't seen the side emblems for the 300U anywhere, so e-bay is probably your best bet.
