OK this is kinda off topic. My mother-in-law is setting off and selling some of the buildings at the family farm and I am going to buy them. It's about 2 acres with a barn, a shed and a windmill/pump shed. THe barna ans shed are in great shape and I plann of keeping the SH and M there at some point. but the windmill/pump shed is in poor shape.

We live out of state, does anyone know if there is any value in the old windmills? or if people will come take them away?

Alot of the value of the windmill depends on 1-what brand the mill itself is(are there still parts available? Aeromotors and other are still readily available) 2- what size is it...diameter of the fan(around here six-footers are common and eight footers are around....auction prices for used 6ft motors are about $500 and 8's are a bit more). 3- what kinda tower is it on? If it's a wooden tower the tower isn't worth anything...but if it's on a factory steel tower, the tower alone has value along with what the head is worth. Your best bet is to check the local yellowpages for local welldrillers who deal in windmills and have one of them come take a look at it....lots of them around here do a pretty good business taking mills and steel towers off of old farmsteads and refurbishing them.....

Last resort- if it's an older obsolete brand of mill, put it on ebay and sell it as a collectors item....bet you'll be suprised what it'd bring.

Good luck!

I bought a working windmill in Ne about 5 years ago for $400.00. Had to hire a crew to take it down and rent a trailer to put it on. Sold it in La a year later for $800.00. Broke about even. It"s still laying behind the guys barn. I would like to get another one to put up in my yard now.

Windmills are certainly pricey....

I've been looking for one for I don't know how long. But the prices in this part of the country are just outta reach.

Havn't seen any for as little as $1200.00 And new ones (i.e. Aermotor) are several times that.

Now, if you want to give that windmill to me (seeing as it's not worth anything) I'll pay the shipping

Scott

Wind mills are becoming a collector's item, I have seen them sell for $1200 complete.. there's a guy here in MN that buys them and then cuts tem down to 20 ft tall or shorter making them into a lawn ornament...and sells them for more moola!
