I have a 71' Farmall 656 gas, gear drive. The tractor does not have a T/A. Here's the story... after a few tugs trying to pull my pickup out of the mud, the tractor stopped in gear and made a grinding noise. I can put it in all the gears with the shifter but when u let the clutch out all it does is make a grinding noise.if u push the clutch in the noise is minimal. The PTO still works and so does the fasthitch. I pulled the inspection plate off the bottom of the bellhousing and i couldn't find any metal shavings or loose parts.. The clutch looked pretty fresh from what i could see... does this definantly sound like a clutch problem, or could it be in the linkage?? any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!

You may have pulled the center out of the disk or it is the trans inputshaft. OR ya got bigger problems back behind the transmission . like a bad spider gear , wiped out ring gear bolts broken axel what ever it is it is nothing that money won't fix and since i can not check it for myself or hear where the grinding noise is comming from start at the clutch and work your way back from there even though you looked up in at the clutch that is not a sure thing as all you can see is the PTO shaft as the transmission shaft is inside that and looken up thru the hole ya ain't going to see much.
