I just bought a 300 utility unused for years.
Has a loader, even empty takes all my strength to steer it. What can I do to correct this problem.

Hank; When I bought my 300U the steering was extremely hard too and I was looking all over for ways to put power steering on it. During routine maintenance shortly after I got it I discovered that the oil reservoir for the steering was empty. I filled it up and was amazed at how much difference it made. I can live with it now while before I was really sorry I had bought it.

Hank: If your expecting good non power steering I doubt if you can correct the problem. When I was about 13 my dad bought a new Farmall 300 and my uncle a new Utility 300. Bear in mind these were both new tractors, and we always said if the guy that drove that utility all summer wasn't in good shape through the arms and shoulders, when he started, he would be by fall, either that or he would quit.

Lets face it, if your going to put those front wheels that far back, it can't be anything but hard steering. Not a lot of difference in weight of a Farmall or Utility from torque tube forward.

Hank;
There probably could be a forum just devoted to Utility steering problems. Check the archives, and I'm sure you will find lots of advice regarding questions such as yours.

That said, make sure everything in the steering system is well lubed and greased, from the box itself to the tierod ends. Air up the front tires, and steer only while moving.

I found out the hard and expensive way what the results of steering problems lead to on my 350U.

Good Luck
