Can't get my M to idle right?

My M was not running right so I changed plugs/wires and put on a new cap and rotor on the mag. It still runs rough when its idling, cold and hot. When you run it at half or full throttle it seems to run fine. It took the carb apart and cleaned everything, but it still does it. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Bobg

Most likely the distributor is worn out. The bushings that support the shafft have too much wear, which will allow the timing to wander around at will, and will result in an erratic idle.

How are the intake manifold gaskets? Try squirting some oil from a pump oiler around the manifold/ head joints & see if the idle smoothes out.

Have you loosened the distributor and checked the timing. My Super M had a rough idle/miss, ran good under load, and it was a timing issue.
