People that use a bumper jack and then crawl under their cars are flirting with serious injury or even death. There was incident it where I worked, but in a different section where they up loaded 120mm artillery rounds with more powder to see if the gun would withstand the pressure. This has been done for years without any problems.
They remove the primer with a spanner wrench and add more powder and reinstall the primer with the
same wrench until snug, then they used an air wrench to torque it. This man had his own way of of doing this, he used the air wrench to remove the primer and to reinstall it. Had been warned not to do that many times. On this day he was doing the same
procedure and he was in a hurry to finish before lunch so he and his girlfriend could go eat. We heard a large explosion that was near us, but they're always firing guns so we didn't pay much attention until we saw firetrucks and ambulances
heading that way. He and a co-worker were both killed, his girlfriend had stepped out to go to the bathroom a few minutes before the blast. The safety office conducted a test to see who was at fault. They took a shell without any powder or propellant and used an air wrench similar to
one used on the explosion to remove the primer.
It was cherry red when removed. A photographer
that I knew was called to the scene to video and photograph the test cell. He said he didn't eat for a week. Hal
