When i bought this tractor I knew this was bad. I have been holding my breath hoping it didn't fall off while I was using tractor. I am done with field work for a few days and have the new tierod end from IH (the long one without threads and only slotted holes for clamp and bolt as it is adj. front axle).
The previous owner knew it was bad too as there are pipe wrench marks on the outer tube where it looks like he tried to pull apart and failed. I am afraid that when I try to free tierod end from tube that it is going to be "major" seized up. i am thinking I will probably have to apply heat to the tube and twist and pull to separate. Anyboby else had this problem and have a different method than what I am describing.

Lots of heat and the pipe wrench. When you go back together grease the inside of the tube, next time it will come off by hand.

Because you are scrapping the old rod, heat it only. Let the heat (red hot) sink up the sleeve. Then let it cool. When cool it will probably be free enough to remove.

Michael, I recently narrowed ours up to 38" row spacing and had to heat one tube. The other side wasn"t too much trouble. I"d been spraying PB Blaster on them for a few weeks prior to trying to move them. Hitting it with the "ole blue headed hammer" will free them up most of the time.

Good Luck!
Mitch
