before I began frequenting this forum, I used to have faith in my spelling. No offense, but these misspellings crack me up. I have seen this word spelled a jillion different ways on here, and I am now doubting if I am right, if I have been misspelling everything from hyderolic to carbretar all my life. Is it obsessive compulsive of me to spell correctly?

I did think (me being an anthropoligist) that the spell checkers of microsoft and others in this computer age would slow down the wheels of change when it came to language morphing. such as the old english of chaucer being unreadable to us now adays. But PEOPLE FIND A WAY, don't they... Man is unbelievable. I love it.

Also, being an anthropologist, I find the misspellings part of the charm of the discussion board. Also feel that the people who post here bring so much other knowledge to the list that I don't have, that I try not to judge them for their spelling. One that drives me crazy though in the picture classifieds is when people say their tractor "runs good" instead of "runs well".

picky picky just be glad someone is trying to give their input. Not everyone has knowlege of an old tractor and how it works like the one who wanted to buy a tilt meter for his M.

Gene, you are one of those who has cleaned up their language. It is immeasureably better than it was when you first started to post. I commend you for it. I pay attention to people who have your knowledge plus put some effort in their posts.

And here I thought that it was just me. I also find it hard to read the posts that are all caps or with no punctuation. I am getting to be more inclined to not even read them. I proof read my posts but sometimes I have that problem where I see one thing and the brain is reading something else. I am far from being an English major but I sure cringe when I listen to some of the younger generations and the way the massacre our language.

Actually, except for the kids that use u instead of you, and b instead of be, and the ones who use all caps for some weird reason, I think most of the english butchers on this forum are the old geezers, of which I am one. At least I try to type more or less correctly. (that first sentence is far too long)

I get a charge out of so many who abbreviate 'cylinder' with cly, instead of cyl.

I find mispelled words a distraction. The ones I mispell are the ones I don't catch when re-reading my posts. Some people don't know how to spell, some don't bother correcting their mistakes, some think their spelling is cute, some don't care. I do have much less respect for those who spell every other word wrong -- makes me wonder if their mechanical ability is as bad as their spelling. Other irritants are the ones who say "I done that", or I seen that". I realize that a lot of people talk that way without thinking about it, and have done it all their lives, but if they have at least finished grade school, it seems to me that they should at least know not to write it that way. I suppose they just "ain't got no larnin". Having said that, I think I'll turn my computer off for a few days ---.

There are a few people that use this forum, that are very knowledgable, and articulate as well. I have alot of respect for them and enjoy reading their replies. No disrepect intended, but I find reading posts that are all capital letters or lower case tough to read. What is more difficlt though is the total lack of punctuation. I don't have to like it and I don't have read them all either. So it is my fault if I have a problem with it.

I think that it is great that forums such as this don't have spell check, it has forced me to start proofreading my own writing again, and again, and again.

I cheat. If it is a long post, I write it in MS Word. Then I cut and paste it into the post:-) I still find misspellings though.
