I am curious if a D300 series rear engine cover and a D400 series are the same. I have a 400 block torn down and I put a 300 oil pan gasket up to it and they were the same width just the 300 was about 3 inches shorter. Will the rear engine plates enterchange?

Also the international 666 tractor. Are there any other tractors that used the same bell housings and rear ends that the 666 used. Was the 666 the same as the 560? Is there any way to put a D358 in a 560?

Yes, a 300 series plate should bolt up to a 400 series block.

544, 656, 666, and 686 use the same bell housing. No, they are not the same as a 560. 560 has the same 12" clutch as the 706, 806, ect., while the 656 family uses somthing like a 10 1/2" clutch. 560 frame rails bolt to the front of the clutch housing while 656 family frame rails bolt to the side of the clutch housing.

As for putting a 358 in a 560, start out with the flywheel, rear plate, and frame rails from a 310-powered 706, a 756 diesel, or an 826 diesel gear drive. That will get you a start. You"ll pretty much have to fabricate all the lines and linkages, when you"re done, the 358 will tear that 560 rear end to pieces.
