Where's Bob's 10si Diagram?

I only used a single wire cause that's what I was told a while back...I copied the nice posting with the photo and I'll go get a 10si and a diode, but, where can I find the wiring diagram to hook it up?

If I have a 12volt coil, I don't need the ballast resistor, right?

Jeff, YOURE CORRECT if indeed your coil is full 12 volt rated, NO EXTERNAL BALLAST IS REQUIRED on a 12 volt system.

Caution: A full true 12 volt (sometimes referred to as internally ballasted) coil might be labeled "12 volts" or "12 volts no external ballast required". HOWEVER a coil labeled "12 volts for use with an external ballast" does require a ballast since its in reality a 6 volt coil.

NOTE: A 6 volt coils primary resistance as measured between its lil + and - terminals would be in the 1.5 to 2 ohms range, while a 12 volt coil would measure more like 2.5 to 3.5 or so ohms.

NOTE: Im NOT talking about the series in line 10 ohm protection resistor recommended for the alternators No. 1 excitation circuit feed, Im talking about the ignition ballast resistor here!!!!! !!!!!

Jeff, Heres how I wire a GM 10SI Alternator and remember, it requires NEGATIVE GROUND !!!!! !

The big rear main output terminal goes to the wire that used to be connected to the BAT terminal on the Voltage Regulator or Cutout Relay. HOWEVER if that wire wasnt already upgraded, when I convert from a Genny to an Alternator, I replace that wire with a 10 Gauge and it runs from the alternators main output up to the LOAD (NOT to battery/starter) side of the ammeter. I also replace/use 10 Gauge from the ammeters other SUPPLY terminal to the battery/starter.

The little side number 2F Voltage Sense terminal gets connected (use a short 14 jumper wire) right up to to and with the big side terminal just mentioned.

For the little 1R side Excitation terminal, run a 16 or so gauge wire from the ignition switches IGN (which is HOT ONLY when ignition is turned on, same place that feeds voltage to the coil) terminal and in series with it place a 10 ohm 5 watt current limiting resistor (dont really need that much wattage power rating, but they are heavy duty built and easy to wire). Then in the rare event the tractor continues to run cuz of alternator backfeed when the ignition is switched OFF, I add in series a 5 amp 50 PIV minimum Diode. The diode must be wired with negative cathode end to the alternator and positive anode end to the switch. Again, the ratings are not that exact but about any diode over a few amps and 50 volts or so works.

Dont forget to change the battery to negative ground and the coil needs to be wired so the negative goes to ground via the distributor points and the positive gets power from the ignition switch and you have to reverse ammeter leads also if your just now changing polarities.

Combine my diode with BobM's diagram, and you'll be all set!

You can use the diode (which is easy to keep out of sight) in place of the light bulb in BobM's diagrams.

I forget what you were working with, BobM's diagram # 6 MAY be what you are looking for.
