Oil leaks near Bell housing/final drive?

I am seeing oil dripping from where the Bell housing/Differential shaft housing meets the break rod arms (near the center of the final drives right where the bell housings meets the final drive, not below where the gasket is). Strangely enough, the drips is on BOTH sides of the bell housing (just above where the brake rod arms are beside the final drive assembly?) You can see from the pictures that it"s leaking enough to be a drip and it happens everytime I use the tractor now.

I am trying to understand what the cause of the leak may be. Unfortunately, it could be a number of things. Recent things I have done to the tractor
1. Changed Hydraulic and transmission oil
2. Changed left wheel (old wheel was totally worn down, new wheel is so new the left side of the tractor now sits 3 inches higher than right).
3. Ran PTO pretty hard and I do see some oil (although not a drip) Does anyone have any idea what may have happened. I hate seeing a constant drip and not knowing what is leaking.

That picture looks like the final drive for a 140 or similar tractor. I see the Fast Hitch/cultivator brackets in the background. That leak is coming either from the final drive pinion shaft seal, or from the differential (that is on the transmission side) shaft seal, or both. If the transmission is overfilled, that will contribute to the problem. Make sure you only have the transmission filled to the level plug located on the left side behind the brake rod. You have to take the brake rod yoke (clevis) loose to get at the level plug. To replace the seals, you have to remove the final drive and then the brake drum. After you do that, you can get at the seals to replace them.

Ramon, I'm not clear on what you have there. It looks to me like the right side final drive of an A, or Super A? And I think maybe what you refer to as a "bell housing" might be the differential shaft housing that goes between the differential and the final drive?

If so, you may have overfilled the transmission oil. There are seals on both sides of the differential where the differential shafts enter it. You mention that you recently changed the transmission oil. Check the level on the left side of the transmission, there is a small pipe plug that will be behind the left brake rod. If your level is above that, it is overfilled.

Or that seal may be bad. If so, it's not hard to change, but there is a fair amount of disassembly required to get to it.

Red Dave You are right, I checked the parts manual and it is called the "differential shaft housing". It's the right side final drive on a Farmall 100. So have you ever heard of the leak occurring on BOTH side of the differential shaft housing at the same time? Thanks Ramon

They are probably both sides bad and you mite have over filled also. The front tranny seal could also be bad. You have outer sealalso. When i redo them i replace both inner and outer and also the front tranny. Seals will cost around 50bucks but when you are done you will have good brakes and no leaks for your fresh paint job. Your tractor do as you wish.
