Have been going through my old 1940 O-4 electrical system and wanted to renovate the starter. According to the manual, you undo the two bolts and "remove the starter". Well..... everything is undone, but the clearances are such that I don't see how to extract the starter! Can't rotate it much, and as you pull it back, it contacts the housing for the pulley drive well before it will come clear. Anybody ever had a similar problem or know what obvious thing I'm missing here?
Thanks very much.
Dave.

I had to remove one of the bolts in the transmission housing and then hold my mouth just right. Oh and yeah, knowing the right words helps too.
