I have a friend who has a Farmall Super C. He asked me to try to get it running for him. It had been running a few years ago.

I wasn't able to get it to turn over. I had the starter rebuilt, but itstill wouldn't turnover. I tried pulling the Farmall with another tractor with the Farmall in fifth gear. The engine still wouldn't turn over. The rear wheels would just drag...

Any advice on how to get this running? I'm not an expert mechanic, only fair to middling, mostly because I'm not afraid to figure out how to do something I don't know anything about. I don't know if I can handle disassembling the engine. I don't have anyplace I can work on this over a long period of time.

Thanks for any advice, Jim.

Are the pistons in a Super C aluminum or steel?

After you get the plugs out fill the cylinders with tranny fluid and let it sit a few days. Don't pull it you can brake all sorts of things doing that. Then after a few days do quick short hits on the starter, don't hold it long. Of course have the plug out when you do that. It may pop loose for you. I have a number of tractors that run well that had been locked up till I did that

I would be very carefull pulling it. May very well bend a rod or mess up the valves at the least. Sounds to be stuck up good. You can buy a thin wall socket or I just took an old socket to the grinder and made it a thin wall. Get the plugs out and put whatever rust busting concoktion you like in there and let it soak for a while. Then jack up a rear wheel and rock it back and forth with the it in high gear. Give it sometime and see what happens. IF it's still stuck then get out your wrenchs and start taking stuff apart. Head and oil pan first.

A couple of other questions... I wasn't able to get the spark plus out of the Farmall Super C. I couldn't get the spark splug socket far enough in the spark plug well to have it catch the hex part of the spark plug. Is this normal??? How do I get these out?

Where do I fill and empty the engine and transmission oil?

Thanks, Jim.

The best spark plug socket tha one can use on a Farmall is a 7/8 Deep Well Craftsman as it is of thin wall design
