You old post was getting pretty far down.
As far as compression, you cant tell from the outside what the compression ratio was, so that doesn't matter. The fuel line does not run through the manifold. The manifold and carb were probably different from the gas version. The kerosene manifold would have an adjustable heat flapper to direct exhaust heat around the intake charge. Your best bet if you want it to be 100% correct, would be to get a parts book and study the different parts from kero to the gas version.
Hope this helps.

Just to verify: (copied from previuos responce to me)
1. The gas line goes through the manifold? NO
2. Any engine will work? YES!
3. The aftermarket manifolds will work? YES,but you wont be able to use the original lever,at least the one I have will.
4. Any carburetor will work? If youre refering to the F12/14 carb, yes!

(Not sticking my nose in here, just forgot to go back and look at that particualr post until your post reminded me,sorry)
