Is the transmission and rear end interchangable between a Farmall 450G and 560D? At least are the housings interchangable but the gears, etc... need to be changed?

I am going to restore my Granfather's 1963 Farmall 560D and I have recently located a Farmall 450 with most of it's original parts.

Does anyone know of a book(s) that would be helpful in restoring the Farmall 560D? Any help would be appreciated.

There's a major difference between the 450 and 560 in the transmission/torque tube section: On the 560, IH added an internal transmission-driven hydraulic pump. You could swap them to make a functional tractor, but you'd end up with a mongrel that had no hydraulics.

I think you'd have better luck with swapping the internals than the castings.

What if the Farmall 450G had hydraulics similiar to the 560D (e.g., three lever hydraulics for the hitch), would that make a difference in switching out the 450G vs 560D?

Thank you for your help.

The main reason I was looking to make a switch was because the way the hitch attached to the underneath of the castings had been broken off a long time ago. As part of my restoration project, I want the hitch to be attached to it's original location. Any suggestions?

Thank you

The part that the hitch attaches to should be readily available at salvage yards. Unless, when it broke, it messed up the threads in the housing too much to drill and retap.

Finding a rear housing from a salvage yard should not be a problem and swapen out all the guts is not that big of a deal the biggest problem is that setting up the ring and pinion as not all housings are the same in maching tolerances and this part gets tricky to get it set like it was and will need the help of someone that has the set up tool or and old I H mechanic if ya want it wright .
