I am looking to but a 240 UNtility with a 3point and a loader. right now even with the clutch all the way depressed it still makes a grinding sound and wants to "walk" forward as soon as you take it out of gear the noise stops and once you le the clutch out it engages and the noisoe stops. Any ideas on the problem or know issues witht e clutches on these?

thanks

Splitting it is an easy job. Just be careful. I found that there is enough weight ahead of the point where the front tires touch the ground that it wants to do a nose dive really easy. You should hook your lift to two points, one near the front of the tractor and one near the rear of the engine. That way it can't go either way. A couple of heavy trailer jacks welded to adapter plates work great for the back half. Get the ones with wheels and then you can roll it around if you need.

Don't forget to check that pilot bearing. I had a 404 that everything was fine on...but the pilot bearing went and it did the same thing as yours....
My 2 cents.

The one we had did the same thing. The clutch and pressure plate fingers were shot. You will have to split it.

If it is the disk/plate/bearing/fingers do you have to split the tractor to replace them or can it be done with it together?

Yes, you have to split it. It's not that big of a deal, as long as you have the right stuff to support the two halves. An engine lift is sufficient for the front end, attached to a chain bolted to the valve cover studs. I used a 55-gallon drum dolly to support the rearend, with necessary wood blocking. Both halves are not that heavy when balanced, just a little cumbersome. If I can do it, you can. My buddy and I had my SC split, replaced the clutch and flywheel ring gear and had it back together in less than two hours.

If the clutch is adjusted to the stop, then the clutch disc, throwout bearing or pressure plate fingers are worn also. Sorry. I went through it.
