I am paiting an IH 1066 for my father. I have painted a 966 and an allis chalmers wd. The WD was for a friend and we used BPS paint with hardener. It turned out very well for the amount of money we spent on it. My father has already purchased Case IH 2150 paint and primer. I know that automotive paint will give me a better finish but i dont have the funds to do so. I want all of you experts to let me know how i can get the best paint job possible out of my IH 2150 rouge red. In the past I have primed the pieces, wet sanded sheet metal with 300 grit paper, then applied my rouge red 2150 reduced with thinner at a 3:1 ratio.
My questions are:

What is the best ratio of reducer to paint, to use with the 2150?

Can anything be added to enhance gloss or finish (ie, hardener), if so, what do you suggest. Basically I would love any and all advice on this topic! Advice can be posted here or sent to my email Beed4isu87@aol.com

Thank you!

I've painted a bunch of tractors and I used to use acrylic enamels with a good hardener like the stuff from your IH dealer but I switched to using Acrylic urethanes like Dupont Imron. You will find that it covers better so you will use less paint, it is MUCH more resistant to gas, oil, antifreeze etc.. and it continues to shine without clear coat or wax. Economicly you will find that it is not any more expensive than using a good enamel.
My local auto parts store has Case IH red Imron on the shelf. $79 for the pigment and $23 for the catalyst. Once you try it I think you will see it is worth the money. Just my opinion.

Agreed, there really is no comparison -- but I'm surprised you can get it that cheap. PPG Omni AU+hardener is about $135/gal where I buy it.

Fill the gun3/4 full with the paint and littel thinner and a splash of dupoint 77 S hardner and use and good filterd mask apply light coates and wait for it to flash the first three coats you should still see primer thru and for a nice job about 6 lite coats will get the job done so don" t be in a rush when your mixen the paint and ya bang the stick on the can there should be BEE BEE"s sorta dancing on the top of the paint then it is wright and allow to as i call it heat for a couple min.s before sprayen and to do a 1066 wright it takes about 3 1/2 gallion.
