I would like to add an auxilary hydraulic reservoir to my Super C to ensure I have enough fluid for hydraulic 3 point hitch, hydraulic top link, and anything else that I might think of for the third spool. I have read other posts indicating that adding a tank is a simple matter of: 1) obtaining a tank, 2) mounting it at a location higher than the touch control reservoir, 3) adding a line between the bottom of the auxilary tank and the touch control fill plug, and 4) fill and vent.

First, does this sound about right?

Second, does anyone know off hand the size / pitch of the fill plug and where to find one with some type of nipple for connecting the line to the aux tank?

Thanks in advance.

If the fill plug is a pipe plug, you could drill the center and tap for a hose barb. i did this on my allis G.

Mornin Ika, I have seen some guys plump in a piece of larger diameter pipe onto the fill inlet on the touch control. Im not sure how much more volume you would get by doing this, but maybe something to think about.

If you are using 2-way cylinders, there is no need for any extra fluid.
If my memory is correct, the thread is a standard fine bolt thread; take your out & measure it for diameter with an open end wrench. 1/2" wrench = 1/2" bolt, etc. etc.

Thanks for the reply. At some point it seems that even with 2 way cylinders there is more fluid needed when the cilynders are extended than when retracted because when they are extended you need to replace the volume of the cylinder shaft.

I would be getting into my high school trig but I think the volume in cubic inches would be the stroke X shaft diameter^2 * pi / 4. I haven't done the math but the cylender on both the saginaw 3 point hitch and my new hydraulic top link are sizeable and would consume a fair amount of volume if the above calculations are correct.

Does this seem right regarding the displacement of the cylinder shaft volume or am I missing something and over engineering this thing.

You have the idea but the volume differential is not terrific. One way Cylinders with large bores use up the greatest volume of resivoir capacity. 2 ways give back ~80-90% of vol.
