I was looking at a basket-case 460 thinking I might be able to use the quick-hitch off it. I can't but could buy it for next to nothing. I was thinking it could make a decent pulling tractor that I could haul using my current truck and trailer. It appears that all the parts are there, the guy tore into the t/a on his own and hauled it to my freind's shop upon realizing it was beyond his abilities. The motor was replaced but they didn't reinstall the wishbone bracket and it's beaten up the oil pan pretty good. another freind says I could have a motor built from an 856 but the front of this looks real different than one from an 806 or 560. Would the bigger motor fit? Could a narrow-front casting be made to fit the tractor somehow? I could fab a spindle if it's possible And I think I could come up with a way to steer it. what do you all think?

I'm going to do this (eventually) just to show you all i'm not crazy. I need a 460 ute from the bellhousing back, 806 motor, frame rails and front bolster from a row-crop model (which will help hide the 806 sourcing for the motor) and a front wheel ass'y from a B or c ( I think it would be short enough). I'll just about guarantee I could make it all fit together and work. There's a 460 ute puller for sale on here that's claimed to be 3700 + or - pounds so I'm guessing that with the right driver I could get the thing into 3500 pound class with some dieting ideas i've got for it.

It's a gas. I wonder if I could use a front cover, rails, and bolster off a row crop to make it a narrow front and then fab a spindle and steering linkage, as it'd be stripped of the hyd. system and pto? But then i'd have a steering gear in the bolster and could just fab a steering shaft couldn't I? I bet I could make this work. That'd lose weight from the axle and steering box. Then non-essential 5th gear parts could be removed and/or pared down. Could I be looking at 3500 pound weight class? Or do I just sound like a raving lunatic?

I'm also building a light puller out of a 460 utility/C301 engine for my wife, and expect to easily make the 3750 class. I am using the side rails and have fabbed a light weight wide front end with rack and pinion steering. I think that will look better and be as light or lighter than your narrow front end w/boster idea. Just my opinion.
