Is it possible to put a higher road gear in a Farmall M. I know of a Super M that will top out around 23 t0 24 mph. The book says they should only go aroud 17 mph. I can tell the transmission has been about on the tractor, as it does not have factory gaskets. So i was wondering if somone had modified the transmission. Other M's and Super M's i have driven wouldn't have a chace of keeping up with this one.

As stated by a previous poster, the difference is likely governed RPM, and tire size.

Make sure you've got ALL the wobble out of the steering before you go that fast, and make sure the brakes work very well.

I've got an M that will go well over 20mph. As I've gotten older, I've figured out that's not a healthy thing to do.....

Why would you want to go 25 mph on an M? Are you guys nuts? I had a front end shear off on an H at about 12 mph and that wakes you up real quick, especially with a baler and a half full hay wagon behind that. Darn Ground Hog holes..... .....

Farmall M and SM have no gear reduction in transmission in 5th gear and ring pinion, bull and pinion gears are same ratio in 5th. If tractor is faster than others it has engine RPM set faster or ring and pinion change or taller tires or someones added a overdrive between transmission and clutch.

you need to use the ring and pinion from a w-6 to go faster.
