Hydraulic oil vs. 30W

Question. I'm running hydraulic oil in my two Farmall M's. Both are 1940 with M+W live pumps. Is if possible to run 30 weight oil in these 66 year old pumps and take up some of the slack that might be in the gears or not. Seems like when the oil gets hot it don't want to lift quite as well as it does when it is just warm. Just a thought for you hydraulic gurus out there. Thanks, Harley

The original manual calls for 30wt.nondetergent.
Actually I think it reads the same oil as engine.
Dont know if the originals used nondertergent in the engine. But I would use it in the hydro. I used it in my H and it worked fine.

Napa or Carquest can supply 3 weights of hyd oil, the heavier is roughly 30 wt.

I used 30 wt in mine and it worked well. It should be non detergent though, as I am told the detergent will foam.

Won't hurt anything -- I have it in my M, better or not, I don't know.

Thanks CNKS. That Hyd. oil is about like a 10 W I think, so maybe 30W would take up a little slack. I think I'll try it. Harley
