Hey Folks Got the MD running good on Diesel, but runs poorly on gas, REAL ruff, the odd backfire. Sounds like it could be timing? the distributor is moved as far Counterclockwise as it can be adjusted, (like that when i bought it) I moved it clockwise and it got worse. Also i noticed when i took the carb apart that it apeared that a piece of the float was broke off. Could that cause it. One more question on the Injection Pump, (IH made) there is a spring loaded cover what is that? What is its purpose. Thanks for the advice
Matt

Do you have the firing order set correctly?? The distributor rotates counter clockwise, opposite to what you expect. If you timed it in reverse, it may run(sort of), but will backfire and not act good at all and may blow oil back out of the air cleaner.

Well first off make sure that the dist - mag is set for TDC and as far as the carb is yea it can be flooding so best to fix that . the littel spring loaded cove is where you put Oil in the pump and there is a petcock to check oil level as this pump MUST HAVE ENGINE OIL TO LUBE THE PUMP , now if it is full of diesel fuel then the primary pump shaft seal is leaking and needs to be replaced if that pump is run dry better get your check book out as the damage can be costly.

My wd9 leaks diesel like that. How difficult is that to replace? $$? Is it something a person can do if they are machnicly inclined? I like to do my own work but I have never worked on an injector pump before, but I have a friend who is fairly handy w/ that sort of thing.
please reply
thanks in advance OPSU Kid

Replacing the primary pump seal is not that hard as just about anybody can do that one it is the main pump ya want to keep your fingers out of Unless you have a injection pump test stand and a few years of experance or have the tractor on a dyno and just maken small adjustment as to load and fuel or RPM's and if ya screw up it will cost ya big time . Get yourself a I T manual and it will lay it out for you .

Hey tractor vet, how hard is it to change the seal in that pump and where can I get one. Mine is the old style bosch pump and it has diesel in it, not oil as it should. Thanks, Andy

Well i have always used Case I H parts as they were closer then chasen around 30 miles for a part that they may or may not have 5 miles each way to the dealer was a better choise for me and if they did not have it on hand it was there the next day by noon . Here again having and I T manual is a big help and yes sometimes they do have some wrong info in some of them and if something does not seem correct then ask talk to someone that knowes . I know some guys will not tell they think that they have the market cornered on knolage or they are just plan Arrs hole .
