Can someone walk me through the procedure for putting a new ring gear in my old H? I was told that the tractor need not be split, but access can be gained by dropping the hydraulic pump. Is this rocket science, or can this be done? Please jump in with some direction here. Thanks

The IT manual gives the procedure for splitting the tractor. It is not hard, everything is just heavy.

Sorry guys....the ONLY way to replace the ring gear is to split the tractor!

It's simply is to large to fit thru the opening in the belly. Also getting the old gear off the flywheel generally requires some "heatin' and beatin'" - best accomplished with the flywheel laying flat on the floor.

You can replace the clutch from the bottom, no splitting, I've done that. But I've never heard that the ring gear would fit in that way. My hopes are up, though. The only thing keeping me from a much needed ring gear is a lack of the enormous store of rountoit needed to split ol' Mr. Haney. Maybe somebody knows a way.
Good luck, Wm
