A section of chain link fence or a hog panel and a couple worn-out used tires will accomplish the same thing as that fancy expensive grader. I lived in an old farmhouse at the end of a quarter-mile crushed rock drive for a couple years. Drive was rougher than a cob when I moved there. I spent an hour or two with a home-made belly-mounted grader blade on My Cub Cadet garden tractor rearranging some loose rock & dirt and the drive was smooth as blacktop afterwards. It survived two years of articlulated 4WD tractors, over-loaded tandem axle trucks, 9500 JD combines, etc. As soon as it started getting a little rough again I'd touch up the rough spots. Once the washboards start they only get worse!

Not tryen to be a smart arrs but with a 1/2 mile of maintance work to do have ya ever thought about and older small Gallion grader i have seen them sell for not much more then a good HD 8-9 foot 3point blade. and after a couple hours of rooten and gougen you start to get good at it and you can turn that road onto a bvld.

Kinda pondering it, found a few pull type road graders on steel but no one wants to part with them, I guess there worried their trees in the windbreak will fall over if there aint no equipment holding them up.

Dave: How much tractor and hp are you proposing to pull grader with. If 60 hp plus send me an e mail. I know where there is a good grader, controls are quite similar to the principles used on semi mounted plows. Front is controlled by 3 point and rear by remote hydraulic cylinder using wheels and axle setup much like a disk.

I've run road graders some and my experience tells me anything your going to pull with less than 50 hp, isn't going to take out pot holes. It takes weight and it takes horse power.

Old, that would be nice, only thing is I think in about 5 years I'll have the only gravel road around. Seems like now that the county is allowing 4 homes per 40 and the city folk building in the country dont want there cars and suv's dusty, the county is paving bout every road now. What does that grader go for anyhow? And what model is that Allis

Been asking $3500 for the Galion but would take $3000 for it. It has a 560 IH engine in it. The Allis is a 1947 WC speed patrol.
