I have a Farmall "H" that I"v run into a problem with, The tractor runs real good, but when it comes to starting it the starter dosent grab, if you turn the motor over about half a turn by hand, than try using the starter, the starter will turn it over one or two times, than it just grinds. I think the flywheel must be missing some teeth or somthing, but if so what is the best way of going about fixing that? Thanks, Travis

Either the teeth on the starter pinion or the ring gear are badly worn, most likely both. (Not unusual for a 50 - 60 year old tractor.)

You might get by just replacing the starter pinion ($40 - $50), but usually the ring gear needs to be replaced as well.

A new ring gear costs about $40. Unfortunately you MUST split the tractor to get at it. The good news is once you've got the tractor split removing/replacing the ring gear is simple. And when it's split you might as well replace the clutch disk too - it'll never be easier...

1. Split tractor
2. Remove flywheel
3. Remove ring gear
4. Install new ring gear

Or, you can remove the clutch and flywheel on an H without splitting, but it's easier to split - in my opinion anyway.
