How to set timing on 1951 Farmall

Can anyone tell me how to get the timing set on my 1951 International Harvestor Farmall? Is there somewhere that I can get a print out telling how to do it..... ....we have it up and running again, but timing is off..... ..appreciate any help..... ...thanks.

If it's running, it's close. Make a mark on the distributor and the engine housing (use masking tape if it's a clean repaint, otherwise chalk) so you have a starting point.

While the tractor is running, loosen the bolts that hold down the distributor a little bit, until you can move turn the distributor with some effort. Move it a little bit at a time until it smooths out. Test by revving the engine a few times. If it sputters or sags, then you don't have it right. Try again.

There is a mark on the flywheel for t.d.c. hard to see but if you have #1 on top compression the rotor will line up with the tower on the cap going to #1. I use a maglite to see in the spark plug hole when the piston is all the way up then you should be able to see the mark on the flywheel and mark it with whit4e chalk of something so the timing lite will show when the engine is running. Hardest thing is getting the inside capscrew loose to adjust the dist. You can do it by ear alsowhen engine is running.
