I was at the tractor junkyard today and was fortunate to pickup, at a very reasonable price,a IH gas gauge for my W6. Slight problem though, the cork float is crumbling. Very hard to find cork these days, any ideas on a fix for this????? ?

Crafts Direct and Michaels stores both have nice big corks. Wood really does not have the boyancy needed. Gasoline and diesel are much lighter than H2O and most wood sinks after a few monts, or rightaway.

Seen some at an arts and crafts store. Also at our local hardware store. You might want to try an oil dealer and see if they have a cork off an old fuel/oil tank gage.

I have a similar problem with my MTA, thinking about a piece of wooden dowel for a replacement, any one tried it?

Wooden dowel will make a great gas guage. Just remove cap, stick dowel down into tank, remove, and see how much gas is in there.

If you meant replacing the cork with a peice of wood, I don't think it'll work.
