I recently seen a IH 1466 for sale. I contacted the dealer and said they wanted $8000 for it. They also said they think water is getting into the oil pan. How much trouble could I be getting into if I bought this tractor? The tractor has dual pto and torque is good but don't know total of engine hours. The tractor looks to be in really good shape.

I just went through a 1466 motor. I don"t even have it back in yet. I have 1800 in parts but I had to buy a crank. I gave 3000 for this one and the TA is out

Well it ould be nice for them to drop the price but i think Allen's a bit off the mark , now if they would come down to 4500-5000 as is where is then if you were able to do the wrenchen yourself and the crank is not toast you would have somewhere around 3000 grand in doing a total out of frame overhaul . That is the only way i will do one anymore is out of frame and do it wright the first time boil the block have the line bore checked and if needed linebored have the deck of the block trued up and counter bores re cut both ends of the rods done new cam bushings and also CHECK the cam as they have been going bad and wiping lobes and lifters and up grade from a DT-a seires to the B seires with the new style cam and top breather and new style pistons that good for about 10 ponys more . .But if they won't come down Well ask them if they need a large box of salt and pepper cause they are going to be eating it at that price .

Brian,

They need to drop thier price by about $5500 'cause that tractor needs an engine overhaul.

IT ain't that big of a deal nothing that and overhaul won't fix and the DT's are one of the nicest to rebuild Don't need no sleeve puller no press fit sleeves no sizing and the complet kit ain't much over a grand Now with machine work you should not get over 3000 in it even with a new cam . and rebuiling the pump.

Well unless you call takin it to mechanic an easy fix then I guess its easy but much more costly.

They are not that hard to do they are a lot eisier then a 806-1456 or even a old C221 -291 . Just a matter of popen the head and pan off if your doing and in chassie popen the pistons out drain the water out of the block and pop the sleeves up a littel clean up a dry fit to make sure that the sleeve is setting correct pull it out put the o/rings on a littel Murphys stuff it in move on to the next after all are in take some short bolts with big washer on just so the cautch the sleevs so ya don't have them come up after ya get a piston in man i am teling ya Vettett could do one with a littel help a two hundered dollar craftsman tool kit and a good toqure wrench and a extra set of hand to lift the head on , I would rate this one at a 18 pack and your done , only engine that i think is easier is a 318 detroit my one buddy and i could rebuild one side in around 4 hours and do both in 6 1/2 hours and a 12 pack.
