The running gear, which has spoke wheels, is in excellent condition but all the wheel bearings are worn out. Can anyone tell me if these wheel bearings are available and how would I identify what I need? Assumming I can get the running gear in good shape I would like to build a wooden bed with removable sides for this wagon. Does anyone know if plans are availbe for building such a bed? Thanks

If this gears is from the early 50's, there are 2 roller bearings in each hub[ around 4" long as stated below]. I think we got ours at the IH dealer. Had a tough time finding them. Don't believe we ever did find any at motion industries or standard bearings [NAPA either].

Thanks for all the info, it has all been very helpful. I pulled one wheel apart and found than there are indeed two sets of roller bearings about 2 3/4" long with part number 8678T. I pulled apart the best wheel to ensure that I would be able to read part numbers. On the one I took apart there was some damage to the axle but it seem like the most wear was inside the wheel. Apparently the wheels have a removeable, sleeve-like bearing surface. Does anyone have advice about repairing or getting new axles and replacing the bearing surface inside the wheels?

Carry your camera with you and take pictures of flat truck beds.....you can find farm trucks parked at feed stores or elevators.....we had a truck type bed on a heavy duty IHC wagon..... worked great.....

If you have those roller bearings, about 4"
long, I would try an IH dealer

You need to pull out a set of the old bearings and take them to your local auto parts store. You probably would only need the numbers from the old bearings, but to be on the safe side I would take them along. They can cross-reference the numbers to the brand they sell. I would think all the wheels have the same bearings. Timken, Fafnir and MRC are all name brand bearings and there's probably more. They do need to be packed
with bearing grease once a year if the wagon is used a lot or sits in the weather where water can
enter. Hal
PS: Here's a web site that may have plans for a hay wagon bed. Click on miscellaneous.
