i changed the hydraulic filter tonight and when i pulled off the cover i noticed something that looked like a rubber band laying in the bottom of filter housing. there were several small pieces. i also saw some sticking out of the filter. i did not see any other shavings. i have never seen this before. what is it?? should i be concerned??

thanks!!

Duane

I always use a rubber band to hold the input shaft bearing rollers together to make assembly easier. A lot of mechanics use this trick. Rubber band will find its way into the filter and cause no harm on the way. Not to worry.

That came from when that tractor was split probably for a T/A and the mechanic put one or two rubber bands around the input shaft ft bearing to hold the bearings tight so he did not knock any of them out whe he slid the tractor back together . SOOooo don't worry about it.

No telling what it is or where it came from... As long as all of the hydraulic functions work, I wouldn't worry much. Mabey cut the old filter open and see what's all stuck inside. Change filter again in about 50 hrs and see if you have more pieces. If you don't know when the last time the fluid was changed, or it's been longer than a year, you should change it.
