Hello,
I was wondering if anyone has tried putting in two 12 volt automotive batteries to replace the 3EH batteries on a 66 series farmall. Was wondering whether they will fit where the 6 volts were? Seems like the 3EH batteries just don't last.
Thanks, YC

Nat2 has a point about mismatched batteries!
All batteries in a system such as yours should be the same size, brand, model, capacity, and age to be ideal.
Parallel connections can tollerate way more mismatch than series batteries because all the power must go through every battery in series. While in a parallel system if the batteries are not sulphated (shorted) they just add to one another's capacity.
Two batteries of high crank capacity have more lead in them than three batteries (less required room for case material.
Six volt batteries tend to be "on the shelf" longer than high turnover 12v batteries. Thus they may be aged prior to purchase!
I stand by this info. Good luck

Two 12V batteries in parallel won't be any better, and will probably be worse. The weaker battery will draw the stronger battery down until they're both dead and junk.

The dual 6V battery setup lasts just fine, if everything else is up to snuff. You probably have a charging problem or a short circuit somewhere that's drawing the batteries down.

Connected to provide the correct voltage, 12v batteries will work. The batteries should be measured to fill the space to the max (including depth to allow for connections). Crank amps, and Cold crank amps, are the primary starting considerations, the higher the better. Warrantee always makes a difference as well. The highest performance batteries (that I am aware of) are Gell Cell batteries. (as much as 1100 Crank amps) and can be mounted in any position.
I hope this fills a need, let us know.
