How much is the typical cost for a SMTA TA and gasket set? Does anyone know the suggested number of hours to replace a TA in the SMTA? I know I have to split the tractor twice but what else is involved?

I got a quote of $3000 to replace the TA in my Farmall 656D. I ended up purchasing the rebuild video. I am in the process of splitting the tractor now - will let you know how it comes out. It isn't a particularly hard process, just moving some weight around so you have to be careful.

My guess is that I will have less than $300 in parts when I am done. That is gasket sets, rear main seal, and parts to rebuild the TA myself.

Regards, Tip

What ever you do don't just replace the rollers like they do in the video. When the carrier wears it don't wear even. It will be a short term fix. Do your self a favor and put in a rebuilt TA

When i was still doiing them with all the gskts and T/A and hy tran the parts bill came to around 675 and labor ( but i was cheap at 475 ) . Now today i would have to have 600 labor . and i would suppose the parts with everything except the clutch and ppa would be up 20% .

I can assume then a man is looking at $1300 and up to fix a TA? Screw that! I'll avoid TA versions.....seems as if they all need fixing.

There is a video on how to do this. I found it interesting. TSC or maybe e-bay.

Just for comparison in one off my catalogs a rebuilt TA is 522.00 plus core.Be better to get a how to book than trying to explain here. It's not that hard of a job once you get the center section out.
