Which would be the best manual for a super a to do major work on the tranny, clutch, and whatever in the future. I need more pics and information than this little shop manual.

Biggest thing oil slinger does is throw oil up so it can drain back to the pto assy. If you dont use oti and the slinger geare isnt maki9ng any noise i wouldnt worry about it.

scratching my head, oti? was that supposed to be pto? i do not think i'll be useing it with cultivators. but the tranny is quite a bit noiser than my other SA.

the oil slinger is not touching anything so i know that is not the noise. it turns easily. but after getting the pto housing off it is getting oil back to the pto.

but at the other end it would be a good time to check all the seals and bearings since i have it almost stripped down. I'm not making a show tractor just wanting to get it in shape to use.All the bearings turn easily by hand, but without a load on them i'm not sure if they need replacing.

The GREATest manual in the world is this forum. Whatever you get in print you can supplement with the help you get here. Ask your questions and copy and paste them into a word document. Save them in a file and use them for clarity when the manual fails. I wouldn't half turn a nut without giving some of these fellas a chance to wade in.

I've liked the manuals I got from Binder Books.

my shop manual is #IH-8, it covers A-D9.I don't need every step detailed, just more than 1 pic of side view of transmission.

Is this the same manual you are calling service manual?I just dont like surprizes when i tackle something new to me.

it doesn't say anything about if the clutch shaft has to come out also. Just seperate the tranny case from the clutch housing. does the main spline shaft slip out of the transmission drive flange?something has to before it will split at that section.

I am just trying to git a visual in my head before i do that step. i have the top cover off and the pto housing off. still have to pull axle shaft. The only reason i.m doing it is the teeth are gone on the oil slinger gear.

i dont know that it really needs it, as oil is being moved to the top via the drive gears.

and i have not located a oil gear yet.

IH-8 sounds like the IT manual. It is not bad, but does not cover everything in the same detail as the IH service manuals. Check over at binder books.

BTW the IH H service manual (CHS-69) does not say much about the transmission, so better to have a few places to look.

Besides a selection of service manuals, a parts book is really handy.

The original IH service manual is the only other option. I'm not talking about the owner/operator manual; I'm talking about the one the IH mechanics used.

Unfortunately, it still requires some level of mechanical aptitude, even with the original service manual. There's nothing available that will get you down to the level of "Unscrew the bolt labeled 1A, turning counter-clockwise 23 full revolutions, or until the bolt comes free from the casting." There's no cookbook, only assembly drawings and specifications.
