Late 1952 Farmall H S/N FBH 389442 X1

The question is this:

I know the Super H with live hydraulics has a beefier gear under the front cover to handle the load of the hydraulic pump. Does anyone know of a S/N break where this was added to the H? I've heard before in this forum, that some of the later H's had this heavier gear despite not having live hydraulics. I want to add live hydraulics to my tractor and just want to have an idea of what I will need for success on the first attempt.

Also, what if any, changes are required for the ignition system (i.e. distributor mounting). It currently has the factory horizontal mounted distributor.

Thanks in advance for the help guys!

The hydralic system on the super and 300-400 are all some what alike...We sheared the moon key off on the camshaft which holds the cam gears on. which in turn messed up the ignition..when I went to get a different camshaft IHC made a camshaft that had left hand threads on that end to hold the cam gear on..thus it would not unscrew when raising a heavy load..what ever you do,do not hold the hydraulic lever back, and giving the tractor more gas..when there is a lot of resistance in the hydraulic pump it will shear the key in the cam gear and mess up the ignition..

The break came in late '50 or mid '51, if I remember right. 348XXX 'er something like that.

No change to the ignition at all. Just remove your old distributor adaptor and put in the pump in it's place.

Hey! Thanks for the reply and picture Allen! That is a big help to actually see the set up as it is supposed to be. I'm having the pump rebuilt now so it will be fresh when I install it. That gives me piece of mind knowing I've already got the beefier gear and won't need any addition pieces for the ignition system.

Thanks again!
