I have just bought the pertronix electronic ignition for my farmall H. I removed the points and installed everything properly per the instructions and nothing. The tractor has no fire at all. The system is a 6v postive ground. Was wondering if I needed a new coil? I am just using the standard coil that was on the tractor when the points were in use. Also I did some testing and the power going into the pertronix unit is the full 6 volts, but coming out of the unit to the coil is only about 4.4 or so. If anyone has any suggestions that would be great. Thanks

Did get it going after I followed a wiring diagram for the tractor. Turns out that the previous owner had the battery cables connected backwards. The + was going to the starter and the - was going to ground. I got it running now and everything seems to work except for the generator. After I rewired the generator to the specs of the diagram it does not charge at all. I took the cover off the voltage regulator and found the points were never going together. Is this why it is not charging? I have verified that the generator is putting out voltage, but its not getting through the voltage regulator. I think I may have a bad unit. Thanks

The charging Problem--
Try polarizing the Generator. To do this, momentarily connect a jumper wire between the "GEN" and "BAT" terminals on the regulator. Do this with the engine off.
You may also want to check the regulator to see what polarity it is. They are usually labeled somewhere. Some regulators are positive, some negative and some are either.

Same here,my 12V Neg Pertronix that I got last year works excellent.Smooth idle, fast start,no smoke or smells, and instant governor response. The Autolite plugs seem to help out too.I was not pleased with the overall performance of the Champions that I installed Dec 04 (and the ones the previous owner had just put in prior).I think the Champion brand plugs would work better if they offered fine wire platinum models,or at least like their "EZ Start" small engine plugs. However,no one offers an upgrade for these old "fat" plugs.

I am using the Autolites that their catalog states for the application.I also run a good dose of Sea Foam in the fuel too.

Do you have the right kit?. They make several 6v & 12v positive & negative ground kits.

Yes, I do have the right kit. I have verified that this is the correct kit for my distributor and everything seems to fit into place great.

There is a tech support number in the instructions for your Pertronix ignition. Call them up and tell them your problem. I'm sure they can help you. I had no problem with my 12V negative ground unit and my tractor runs and idles better than it ever did.
